EIFS is an acronym for “Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems.” It is a type of cladding that is composed of several layers, including an insulation board, base coat, reinforcement mesh, and topcoat. This system is typically used on commercial and institutional buildings, although it can also be used on residential structures.
There are several benefits to using EIFS, including improved energy efficiency thanks to better insulation, increased durability, and a wide range of design options. Additionally, EIFS is often easier to install than other types of cladding systems.
R-value measures thermal resistance, and the higher the R-value, the better the insulation. EIFS typically use an insulation board with an R-value of R-4 to R-5.6 per inch as the innermost layer. Combined with standard cavity insulation, this extra layer can double wall insulation from R-11 to R-16.
In general, EPS should not be thinner than 1 inch for EIFS. When clearance is an issue (window and door returns, etc.), a thickness of 3/4 inch is acceptable. Because this limits rasping, it should not be used on full walls. Some EIF systems, such as Infinity® and Outsulation® MD System®, have internal grooves and tracks which require at least 2 inches of EPS
Yes, EIFS finishes can be painted, and in fact, many homeowners choose to do so in order to personalize the look of their home. Painting also offers an opportunity to change the colour of the EIFS finish without having to replace the entire system.
Yes, EIFS systems can be customized with a wide range of colours and textures to create the perfect look for your home or business.
We pay great attention to detail and carefully set up your EIFS system from the ground up so there are no problems. But sometimes things hit the fan – we get it. Get a 5-year warranty on all of our EIFS systems and live with peace of mind.
Thanks to the durability of the materials used in their construction, EIFS systems are built to last. When properly installed and maintained, an EIFS system can last for decades.
EIFS systems require very little maintenance, and can often be cleaned with a simple hose-down. In some cases, more serious stains may require the use of a power washer.
EIFS systems can be installed in all climates, although some special considerations may need to be made in very cold or very hot climates – not applicable to Torontonians. In general, EIFS systems perform well in a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions.
